Most of this collection comprises highlights of my work from 2020, through to spring, 2021. During this time, I wrote about the many facets of love, covering both the emotional highs & lows: from amorous hopes to the pain of unrequited love, from the beginnings of desire through to the incomparable pain of loss. As well, I wrote about disappointing platonic relationships, dissatisfying familial relationships & the search for connection, whether in romance or friendship, leading to the eventual agony of isolation, the resentment & the suicidal ideation when you find yourself alone.
This work covers the struggle of being a queer woman coping with borderline personality disorder, living alone in a city that doesn’t feel like home. Additionally, I explored themes around LGBT identity, mental illness, love & the full spectrum of emotions. I also drew on motifs from nature & mythology, as well as the seasons, the mountains, the ocean, precious gems & open skies, plants & flowers, the celestial bodies & blazing stars, mermaids, angels, the phoenix, demons & monsters. All of these & more have served as my muses. I hope that, as you read, you’ll feel a sense of comfort & of validation.
Each of these pieces is dedicated to you, letting you know that your emotions & experiences matter & more importantly, that you’re not alone. Through the words on these pages, we’re connected, even if just for a moment. Thank you.
